Shall we forgive Vick?

Today, Michael Vick apologized to the NFL commissioner, the Atlanta Falcons owner, his teammates, his fans and the public for his involvement in dog fighting. He has vowed to fix his “maturity.” Not only that, in his speech, Vick claimed to have found God which is classic statement for “I’m going to get my act together now!”

With his apology, is the public ready to forgive him?

If you ask PETA people and animal lovers, they are not going to forgive him for awhile. To them, animals such as dogs are defenseless compare to humans. They can’t speak human language and certainly can’t read. That’s why people are outraged when a superstar like Vick who involved in this kind of action. Clearly, race is not a factor. It’s the dogs. However, are the punishments from the Falcons and Vick’s endorsements too severe? Many predicted that he may lose as much as 100 million dollars for his guilty plea.

Vick did not murder human beings or beat up a woman. So why can’t the public forgive him already? Why does the media pay so much attention to him? These two questions will be remained unanswered. My guess, it’s because he is Michael Vick.

Now that Vick is acknowledging what he did. So, people should now forgive Vick and move on, right? You decide.

Gonzales is gone…who’s next?

It is not a surprise when the U.S Attorney General Alberto Gonzales announce his resignation on Monday morning. Gonzales said that he has achieved the American dreams and he will be leaving the office as of September 17. This move is another big blow to the Bush administration as more of his close allies are stepping out of the White House office.

Karl Rove is gone. Now, Gonzales is gone. Who’s next? Hopefully, it is not his wife, Laura Bush. If it’s her, I know the Bush’s world will explode. Clearly, the public and the Congress does not really have any faith left towards Bush administration despite the fact that the Congress approval rate is 19 percent. Officials who are working for Bush are probably thinking of resigning because they feel President Bush can’t do anything to protect them and/or don’t want to get in trouble for covering up “Bush’s dirty little work.” Right now, the President is in a tough position to replace Gonzales. Many news networks are expecting him to nominate Michael Chertoff for this position, only time can tell.

In the end, whoever is Bush nominating must be able to fix the problems in the Justice Department, right?

Make Bob Murray Responsible For the Utah Mine Accidents

From: Deseret Morning News

It’s been almost two weeks since the six Utah miners stuck in the Crandall Canyon Mine. Now, the rescue operation is suspended because of the accident on Thursday which killed two mine rescue workers and a federal mine inspector. No one really knows when the rescuers can go find the six trapped miners again.

Bob Murray, the owner of the Crandall Canyon Mine was absent on Friday’s news conference when the officials announce to stop the rescue effort. On the same day, Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman decided to visit the mine. He ensured reporters and the trapped miners’ families that he will do everything he can to get the miners out. The fourth hole is about to be drilled. How many more, governor?

What was Huntsman doing for the last 12 days? Was he on vacation? It took him 12 days to make a comment on Crandall Canyon Mine situation. Huntsman should be ashamed and resigned for his slow response.

As for Bob Murray, the outspoken mine owner, should tell people the truth about his mine. Is it a safety mine? What kind of mining method does his mine really use? Is it retreat mining? For the last 12 days, he has been a pain to reporters’ and trapped miners’ families. He is not very helpful. The mine owner claimed, on the very first day, that these six miners were trapped inside the mine because of an earthquake. However, the government reports have proven that there was no earthquake. Clearly, this man is lying and covering up the truth. The chance of these six miners’ survival is very slim. How can someone able to live without food and water for 12 days? Think about it.

Therefore, Bob Murray should be responsible for the accidents on Thursdays and the six trapped miners. This clearly shows that he did not take any action to ensure his mine is safe prior to these two accidents.

Former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson has officially announced to end his 2008 Presidential bid on Sunday night.

In his statement, the former Wisconsin governor said that he had not regret about running for president. After this, Thompson will return to “the private sector”, CNN reports.

Romney Wins the GOP Iowa Straw Poll

The Ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney won the GOP Iowa Straw Poll with 31.6 % percent of the vote. Mike Huckabee came in second with 18 percent. As for Ex-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani finished in 8th and John McCain was a second to last with 0.7 percent. Clearly, for the Republican party, the front runner has officially emerged which is Romney.

This is an essential victory for the former governor. This shows that Romney can run for President as for who he is. His religion is no longer a major factor as it used to be anymore. My question is what will Giuliani do? Will he be able to bounce back? Rudy has to stop running his campaign based on fear and 9/11. The Iowa straw poll proves to the Rudy’s campaign that the Americans are sick of the 9/11 campaign tactic. Rudy, show me more than just a 9/11 mayor!

As for McCain, it is time for him to quit the race. Don’t waste time and money. It’s over.

Here is the result of the GOP Iowa Straw Poll

Candidate Votes Pct.
1. Mitt Romney 4,516 31.6%
2. Mike Huckabee 2,587 18.1%
3. Sam Brownback 2,192 15.3%
4. Tom Tancredo 1,960 13.7%
5. Ron Paul 1,305 9.1%
6. Tommy Thompson 1,039 7.3%
7. Fred Thompson 203 1.4%
8. Rudy Giuliani 183 1.3%
9. Duncan Hunter 174 1.2%
10. John McCain 101 0.7%
11. John Cox 41 0.3%

Bonds passes Aaron Hank’s record

Barry Bonds hits his 756th home run in the fifth inner of tonight’s game against the Washington National. This means, he has passed Aaron Hank’s record of 755 home runs. Bonds is now the home run king with the asterisk for his allegation of steroids.

Congratulations but I will not be celebrating with you.

Will you celebrate when Bonds hit his 755th home run?

Sometimes in this baseball season, Barry Bonds will make a 755th home run and break Hank Aaron’s record. The question is: Will anyone celebrate with Bonds when he hit 755th & 756th home run?

Barry Bonds will always be known as “the cheated baseball guy.” It is quite astonishing for Bonds to have such an extraordinary power to hit home runs at the age of 43. If you look at his hitting statistic, the older Bonds gets, the stronger he hits. Look at the year 2002 stat, Bonds’ BA is at .370 and he was 37 years old at the time. This was the time when Greg Anderson of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative was Bonds’ trainer (He was later indicted for supplying steroid to athletes). After Anderson’s indictment, Bonds’ hitting average has been going down hill. This means, he hasn’t been using steroid.

What does that conclude? Well, Bonds used steroids. I have never seen any baseball player or any other athlete who performs better and looks more masculine when he gets older except for Bonds. Therefore, not everyone will be celebrating when he hits 755th and 756th home run. Why would we want to cheer for a cheater? I don’t get it.

The Bridge Collapse in Mississippi

At least 7 people have died from the deadly bridge collapse in Mississippi. More than 60 people injured. More 50 cars are still under the water. Many people have survived including the school bus in which 50 children including their counselors were in it. The cause is still unknown. However, this is not an act of terrorism.

The I-35W bridge is 64 feet above the Mississippi river. According to various reports, the bridge was under construction in which it was open during the daytime for traffic.

No one would have thought that this 40-year old bridge to collapse. If the bridge was in the midst of being repaired, the public officials should have closed the bridge until the the construction was done. The lanes were reduced from 8 to 2 on both direction. This led to an overcrowded and overloaded bridge in which it could not support many cars in this kind of space.

Our hearts go out to them.

The U.S war on terrorism could pass 1 trillion dollars

What would you do with one trillion dollars?

According to the recent report by MSNBC, the price for war on terrorism which includes the war in Iraq could surpass one trillion dollar. Many critics agree that the cost of it, is higher than they expected.  So far, the United States has spent 611 billion dollars for the war on terror. This includes 567 billion dollars for the war in Iraq alone, Worldnews reports. By the end of 2007, the cost of the war on terrorism will reach to one trillion dollar mark.

Another study by Ivy league professors’ Columbia University economist Joseph E Stiglitz and Harvard lecturer Linda Bilmes predicts the total cost of the war on terrorism especially the war in Iraq will cost up to 2 trillion dollars, the Age reports.

The actual cost of the war will always be unknown. What all Americans know is that this war is unlikely to end anytime soon despite the Democrat’s effort to terminate it. One trillion dollars can be used in various areas from education, health care to immigration. The Americans will always be unhappy until the war is over. More soldiers will die and more mothers will be demanding for answer.
