The violence in Myanmar does not seem to stop anytime soon. The military junta has been using excessive force and killing it people including monks.
Earlier this week, President Bush imposed economic sanction on 14 identified senior Myanmar government officials, NY Times reported. With this announcement, the international pressure to take action in Myanmar is on. However, the economic sanctions alone don’t work.
So fat, the Myanmar military junta is blocking the internet access so reporters can’t send images out to the world. Also, the Chinese government has blocked the U.S and Europeans countries to have the Security Council “condemn the violent crackdown,” NY Times reported.
Demonstrations asking for justice and actions in Myanmar are everywhere. Yet, no one seems to take any further action besides economic sanctions.
The point is this, economic sanctions don’t work to deal with dangerous military junta which senselessly killed innocent people and monks who are demanding for Democracy. To me, killing a monk is a most sinful action that you could do as a Buddhist. It is time for international to realize that economic sanctions don’t work when it comes to this kind of situation. Therefore, the use of force is a must.
