Torre & A-Rod Gone- The Yankees Fallout Continues

It is hard not to talk about the New York Yankees these days.

So what that the Boston Red Sox won the World Series? The news headline that will dominate morning newspapers is Alex Rodriguez who has decided to opt out of his $252 million contract.

Rodriguez’s decision to leave the Yankees is not a surprise after Joe Torre left the team two weeks ago. According to his agent, A-Rod doesn’t want to be on the team because he is uncertain whether his close teammates are returning to the Yankees. His desire to play else where has shown that he is not satisfy with the team management. A-Rod would have stayed in NY if Torre was still with the Yankees. However, this is not the case anymore.

With Torre and A-Rod gone, what is next for the Yankees? More likely, there will be more players quitting the team. This will include Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and Andy Pettitte.

Only time can tell if these three players want to come back as Yankees. They heavily make their decisions based on Torre’s departure.

Let’s wait and see….

Shall we forgive Vick?

Today, Michael Vick apologized to the NFL commissioner, the Atlanta Falcons owner, his teammates, his fans and the public for his involvement in dog fighting. He has vowed to fix his “maturity.” Not only that, in his speech, Vick claimed to have found God which is classic statement for “I’m going to get my act together now!”

With his apology, is the public ready to forgive him?

If you ask PETA people and animal lovers, they are not going to forgive him for awhile. To them, animals such as dogs are defenseless compare to humans. They can’t speak human language and certainly can’t read. That’s why people are outraged when a superstar like Vick who involved in this kind of action. Clearly, race is not a factor. It’s the dogs. However, are the punishments from the Falcons and Vick’s endorsements too severe? Many predicted that he may lose as much as 100 million dollars for his guilty plea.

Vick did not murder human beings or beat up a woman. So why can’t the public forgive him already? Why does the media pay so much attention to him? These two questions will be remained unanswered. My guess, it’s because he is Michael Vick.

Now that Vick is acknowledging what he did. So, people should now forgive Vick and move on, right? You decide.

Bonds passes Aaron Hank’s record

Barry Bonds hits his 756th home run in the fifth inner of tonight’s game against the Washington National. This means, he has passed Aaron Hank’s record of 755 home runs. Bonds is now the home run king with the asterisk for his allegation of steroids.

Congratulations but I will not be celebrating with you.

Will you celebrate when Bonds hit his 755th home run?

Sometimes in this baseball season, Barry Bonds will make a 755th home run and break Hank Aaron’s record. The question is: Will anyone celebrate with Bonds when he hit 755th & 756th home run?

Barry Bonds will always be known as “the cheated baseball guy.” It is quite astonishing for Bonds to have such an extraordinary power to hit home runs at the age of 43. If you look at his hitting statistic, the older Bonds gets, the stronger he hits. Look at the year 2002 stat, Bonds’ BA is at .370 and he was 37 years old at the time. This was the time when Greg Anderson of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-operative was Bonds’ trainer (He was later indicted for supplying steroid to athletes). After Anderson’s indictment, Bonds’ hitting average has been going down hill. This means, he hasn’t been using steroid.

What does that conclude? Well, Bonds used steroids. I have never seen any baseball player or any other athlete who performs better and looks more masculine when he gets older except for Bonds. Therefore, not everyone will be celebrating when he hits 755th and 756th home run. Why would we want to cheer for a cheater? I don’t get it.

David Stern must Resign

So much for the respect to the referees, the allegation against 13-year NBA referee Tim Donaghy for betting on the league games, including ones that he officiated, has humiliated the NBA players, coaches, and definitely referees.

It is David Stern’s responsibility to address the issue and pass tougher rules and regulations to the referees. For years, Stern has been protected them. He makes NBA players, coaches and team owners to pay harsh fines for disrespecting and being rude to them. Stern  knows about this allegation in June but has been refused to take actions. At least, he should have talked to the referees association to deal with this kind of situation but, nope, he hasn’t. Today, at the news conference, he confidently said that no other NBA officials and referees are betting but who would know? Maybe, Stern is hiding the truth, since, he was a lawyer.

Stern must resign for failing to check on referees’ behaviors. He cares so much about his players by making sure that they don’t dress like thugs. Now, that he failed to make sure referees aren’t gamblers, he has to go.

Can Cavs win it all?

It’s been awhile since this site blogs about sports. (Note: I deleted the blog I posted on the Reality Dutch TV hoax because there are many inconsistent reports. Some news agency reports that the participants know about the hoax and the others said don’t including a comment on the site. Therefore, I will post the article again when I find out exactly what happened, my apologies for that.)

Last night, the game between Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers was a moment to remember. It is the first time in the Cavaliers’ franchise history to appear in the NBA finals. Not only that, LeBron James is going to be a part of the history as well. After the celebration, Thursday is the first final game between Cavs and Spurs. There are many questions left wonder, can James and the Cavs win it all?

The answer is to this question is on the hands of James’ teamates. Tonight’s victory against Pistons shows the importance of the James teamates. They can help this team make history. However, they should not solely rely on James. For those who closely watch this series, James struggled the first two games because there were not many help from his team members. The won against Pistons was  completely a team effort including a stunning performance by the raising, rookie star Daniel Gibson who scored 31 points on game 6. Therefore, Spurs must be prepared to not only control James but the entire team.

Cavs can win it all if they continue to play like the way they played against Pistons.

University of Tokyo & Man City, Tell Thaksin to go home and face reality

To the University of Tokyo, what on earth are you thinking? Why are you allowing this man, ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to be a guest lecturer? Do you know that he is going to give lies and false information about Thailand to you? Your students will more likely to be falsely educated by Mr. Thaksin because he will be giving a presentation in which he will only talk about the good things (i.e. how he got Thailand out of IMF debt, and the 30 baht health care system) that he did while ignoring all the things that he did wrong.

To Manchester City, you are blind by the money to let Thaksin place his bid for your soccer team.

Since the coup in September 2006, billionaire and ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been traveling between China and England, making public appearances talking to college student how great he was and how he became the victim of the coup, playing golf and talking to members of his political party Thai-rak-Thai how get his power back in China, and making business deal with Manchester City. It seems to me that Mr. Thaksin does not want to go back to Thailand and face the reality that he is no longer a great/good prime minister. Thaksin is the man that divided the country apart because of his war on drugs policies which killed many innocent people in various parts of the country especially the Southern part of Thailand.  He is also the one who sets the law that removed a 25% limit on foreign ownership of Thai telecommunications companies. This allows him to sell his share to Singapore without a problem. The ousted prime minister abused his power as the leader of Thailand to do business deals with others in hopes to make a lot of money for himself while poor and middle class Thais are suffering.

There is one thing that I do not understand, why is Thaksin afraid of going back to Thailand? Why can’t he just face the charges accused by the junta government? Instead of acting like man, he is more like a woman. He created a blog telling people how much he misses Thailand and that he would like to come back. The junta government allows him to come back. Why does not he? If Mr. Thaksin did not break the Thai laws, then go back and clear them. Don’t stay in England and stop making media presence. The University of Tokyo and Manchester City are giving this man who ruined Thailand a chance to send a dirty message that no one can get him because he is rich and out of the country. Please do me and all the Thai people a favor, fire him, get him out and ship him back to Thailand for me.

Thank you.

Is Tim Hardaway going to follow the rehab trend?

If someone asks you, do you know anyone who hates gay people? Don’t forget to answer “Yes, I know. It’s Tim Hardaway.”

Last night, Hardaway, the former NBA basketball superstar, publicly announced to the world that he hates gay people. He had no fear to letting the world know how homophobic he is. Today, he regets it. Now, Hardaway’s comment on gay people has backfired on him. The NBA commissioner David Stern doesn’t even want to include Hardway in any NBA related appearances.

What is Hardaway going to do now? Is he going to a rehab like other celebrities in order to fix his image? I think so. It doesn’t matter if Hardaway was being honest or not. He should not have said such thing to the public. This kind of comment should be kept in private. I know that it’s a personal opinion. However, when you say such a comment on a radio, television, and other kinds of medium. You are basically putting yourself  jeopardy. In the end, you may lose your job.

For him to get his job back, I think he will go to the rehab to fix his image. I do appreciate his honestly. But, to say that he hates something, in this case gay people, on the radio? That’a little too much.

Beckham in America? What a wrong move

The US Major League Soccer (MLS) has been working very hard to find a way to attract Americans to watch soccer. The MLS has gotten its wishes when the Los Angeles Galaxy (one of the teams in MLS) signs a 5-year deal with a substitute superstar from Real Madrid, David Beckham for 250 million dollars. Beckham was the captain of and recently got kick off from the England national soccer team. He only scored seven league goals as a Real Madrid player. Beckham’s entrance to the MLS will make a little difference to the U.S soccer industry.

With all of honesty, Americans aren’t into soccer. They are crazy about basketball, baseball and football. The L.A Galaxy has made a wrong decision by investing on a player who is not performing very well for the last three or so years. As I mentioned in the paragraph above, Beckham is not a great player as he used to be. That’s why, the Real Madrid has decided not to renew his contract and his national soccer team, England dumped him. Beckham’s arrival to the United States will create a buzz in the soccer industry but it won’t last long. Sorry, but, the United States suck at soccer.

Beckham can be an excellent player in the MLS because of his superior soccer skills compare to other players in this league. However, when the summer starts, not many people are going to watch soccer. People will then soon realize that he is not a good soccer player like he used to. Beckham is just a brand name. Everybody knows him. Many businesses want to him to be the spokesperson for their products. In soccer wise, he is almost at the end of his career because no team in Europe wants to sign him. It’s a wrong move for the L.A Galaxy. The team may end up in debt if Beckham can’t generate enough revenues for his team and the league. Beckham wants to join this team to save his career and his income. Forget about history because nobody watches soccer in America. It would be nice if he could go back to where he from. He needs to prove to  everybody in the world that he can play soccer and not a bench warmer. What is so proud about being a talented soccer player and playing in a developing soccer league where just about every player is inferior than you?

Should men be allowed at a women’s practice?

The N.C.A.A’s committee on women’s athletics  is proposing a ban on the use of men in practices in all intercollegiate women’s sports. The committee on women’s athletics has discovered that Division I, II and III women’ sports teams such as basketball, soccer, volleyball and softball use men who do not have enough talent to play sports in college to train with female student-athletes. The goal is to enhance women’s performance in the game. Many Division I women’s basketball coaches have been defending the use of men in workouts. According to them, the opposite gender can motivate women to work harder in practices and play better in the game. Also, players do not see anything wrong of having men at their practices because they help out female players to be become better athletes.

Really? What about the other players who sit on the bench at the practice watching their starters play 5-on-5 with guys? Are they becoming better athletes too? Or are they becoming discourage and have no interest in playing sports for a college team again? If women can’t practice in men’s sport teams, then men should not be allowed to practice in women’s teams regardless of excuses of well-known coaches have provided, period. It is unfair for other female players who are not starters to sit in practices not doing anything but watching their starters improving. It’s time for the N.C.A.A to do something about it. Let other female players get a chance to improve their skills not just the starters.
